Clarice M Workman

Clarice Mae Workman, age 89, of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday evening March 7, 2018 at her home. She was born May 7, 1928 in Otway, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Perdue) Hoffer.

She was an avid photographer, loved gardening and growing beautiful flowers, and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

On Feb. 26, 1946 she married her husband of 72 years, Elza Workman, who survives. She is also survived by a son, Lance Kelly of California; a daughter, Alesia (Patrick) Merris of West Carrollton; a grandson, Anthony (Kelline) Merris of West Carrollton; three brothers, Henry (Maria) Hoffer of Dayton, Adrian (Elizabeth) Hoffer of Zanesville and Bob (Ruth) Hoffer of Florida; and two sisters, Ruth Ann Gillespie of West Union and Helen Dixon of Portsmouth.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven Douglas Workman.

A funeral service for Mrs. Workman will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the Turner and Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Chaplain William Sangrey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery near Peebles. Visitation will be held from 11a.m. until the time of the service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Vernon Wayne Reeves, age 68, of Manchester, Ohio died surrounded by family on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Christ Hospital. He was born on September 1, 1949 in Manchester the son of the late Charles A. and Ora Bettie (Story) Reeves. Wayne was a graduate of Manchester High School and worked construction most of his life. As a child, he attended the Church of the Nazarene in Manchester. Wayne loved spending time with his family.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Wendell Reeves and Ralph Reeves. He is survived by his brother, Chas Reeves; sister-in-law, Jamie (David) Adkins; nieces and nephews, Jenilyn (Kelly) Young, Wendell (Kari) Reeves, and David Reeves; many great-nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

A funeral service for Wayne will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Wilson Home for Funerals. Burial will take place at Manchester Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until the time of the service.

Michael W Thacker

Michael Wayne Thacker, age 58, of Manchester, Ohio passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, March 1, 2018. He was born on July 9, 1959 in Adams County, Ohio the son of the late John and Lovena (Bradford) Thacker. Mike was married to the love of his life, Lori (Scott) Thacker, and together they shared almost 18 years of marriage. He was a safety at Feecorp for over 18 years. Mike loved the spending time outdoors including things like arrow head hunting, fishing, and hunting. He was an outgoing guy and loved his family very much.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife; his two sons, Jerod (Patty Groves) Thacker of Peebles, Ohio and Jeremy (Tanya Donahue) Thacker of West Union, Ohio; his sisters, Johnna Thacker of Batavia, Ohio, Elana Elkins of Peebles, Ohio, Bryanna Thacker of Georgetown, KY, and Cheria (Ginger Bayless) Thacker of West Union, Ohio; his five grandchildren; his two great-grandchildren; his several nieces and nephews; and many other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to offset the cost of the services.

A memorial service for Mike will be held at 6:30 pm on Friday, March 16 at the Church of Christ and Christian Union in Bentonville. Pastor James “Jim” Lanham will be officiating. Calling hours will be held from 5:00 pm on Friday until the time of the service. Following the service, attendees are invited to a dinner at the church where covered dishes are appreciated.

Charlotte Ann (Steward) McGinnis, 66, of West Union, Ohio passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 at her home. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Steward, one brother, Jack Steward, and parents, John and Bernice (Conn) Steward. Charlotte is survived by her husband, Joey McGinnis of West Union; son, Joey Michael McGinnis at home; six brothers: Keith (Michelle) Steward of Lynx, Rick Steward and Sam Steward, both of Lynx, Glenn (Freda) Steward of West Union, Rodney (Theresa) Steward of Sardinia, and Everett (Tami) Steward of Winchester four sisters: Judy Steward of Lynx, Margaret (Dan) Wilson of West Union, Hazel (Andy) Royster of Kentucky, and Mary Howe of Toledo, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Kathryn E. Setty, Age 91, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 16, 2018 at the Hospitality Center for Rehab and Healing in Xenia. She was born June 13, 1926 in Blue Creek, Ohio, daughter of the late Milford Daniel & Grace Beatrice (Courtney)Reed. Surviving are her 2 daughters- Jeanne (Roger) King of Wilmington, OH, & Elizabeth “Cookie” Setty of Glenville, WV; 3 Grandchildren- Regina (Steve) Jones, Port William, OH Matthew (Kelli) King, Marathon, OH, and Kathryn (Ronnie) Woodford, Harrisville, WV; 7 Great-Grandchildren- Wesley (Jami) Flint, Aubrey (Jon) O’Neill, Daniel (Courtney) Crowe, Amanda Alborano, Jesse Alborano, Louis Alborano, & Joshua Woodford; 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren- Ayla Jade Flint & Adalynn Faith Flint, Jamison Flint, Karsyn Crowe, Noah Crowe and 1 on the way; sister- Peggy (Elwood) Strevel; and brother- Dan (Janet) Reed. Fay (Jones) Couch, 72, of Manchester, Ohio passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born August 9, 1945 in Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Haley (Hall) Jones, and husband, Leonard Couch, Sr. Fay is survived by six children: Anita Emery and Keith, Rhonda Prater and Mike, Darryl Couch, Leonard Couch, Jr. and Crystal, Sonya Couch, and Larry Couch and Stephanie; one sister, Francis Shelk and James; two brothers: Wayne Jones and Linda, and Johnny Jones; three grandchildren that she raised: Kasey Young, Brooklyn Couch, and Shyla Fardoulis, and 18 additional grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Chad W Burns

Chad W. Burns, 38 years, of Peebles, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018, from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.

Chad was born in West Union, Ohio, on December 21, 1979, the son of Jerry Burns, of Peebles, and Debbie Mayes Burns, of Seaman. Chad was employed by Lloyd’s Excavating, working in the field of construction.

In addition to his parents, Chad is survived by his wife Mary Shoemaker Burns, whom he married on July 4, 2009; two sons, Colton Burns and Chad Burns, Jr., both at home; as well as three daughters, Tiffany Burns and Emily Burns, both at home, and Hailey Parks. Chad also leaves behind two brothers, Steven Massey and Jeremy Burns, both of Peebles. Chad will be missed by his many family members and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, in Peebles. The ceremony will be officiated by Don Lewis. Burial will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery.

Family and friends may pay their respects to the immediate family prior to the funeral services, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at the funeral home.

Karen Woods, 58 years of Peebles, passed away on Wednesday March 21, 2018.

She was born in Corbin, KY on November 8, 1959, the daughter of the late Curtis and Pauline (Knoechleman) Bolton.

Karen is survived by her husband, Steve Woods, sons, Mike Bolton of Fayetteville and Jeff Woods of Peebles, three grandchildren, Casey, Xaland and Brayden and several brothers and sisters.

Richard Carl Kiser, Sr., 88 years of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday March 27, 2018. He was born in Cincinnati on September 17, 1929, the son of the late Carl and Alvera (Perry) Kiser. Besides his parents, he was also preceded by three brothers. Richard was one of the founders of the Everglades City VR Corporation. Richard is survived by his wife, Etta Mae (Taylor) Kiser, two sons, Richard (Peggy) Kiser, Jr. of Sardinia and Robert (Paula) Kiser of Hillsboro, daughter, Carolyn King of Sardinia, six grandchildren: Clay (Kelli) Kiser, Clint (Melinda) Kiser, Rachel (Caleb) Bohrer, Alicia King, Christen (Anthony) Fisher and Chad (Erica) King and nine great grandchildren: Cylee, Cooper, Taylor, Landan, Matthew, Gavin, Olivia, Emma and Austin. Michele Eileen Baerenstecher (nee Dowling), 51 of Bay Village, formerly of Solon and Cincinnati, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018. She was born November 12, 1966 to parents Wayne and Nancy (nee Swearingen) Dowling in Gahanna. Michele graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, continuing her education at OSU, earning a Master’s Degree in Education. Michele was an English Teacher for 19 years, substituting in the Columbus City School System, then working for the Cincinnati City Schools and most recently with the North Olmsted School District. In addition to teaching she worked with the theatre students, directing musicals and plays and was a 7th and 8th grade cheerleading coach. Michele put her teaching skills to work as a Parish School of Religion teacher, an active member of the Solon Parent Teacher Association, as well as a dance teacher. Dance was a passion of hers and afforded her the opportunity to work at a theme park in Germany and on Cruise Ships for Carnival Cruise Lines. It was through dance that Michele was able to travel to many parts of the world. Michele is survived by her children Kaitlyn, Jacob and Nicholas Baerenstecher; parents Wayne and Nancy Dowling; and Brother David Dowling (Heather). Norma Christine (Singleton) Bowen, 93, of West Union, Ohio passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Eagle Creek Nursing Center in West Union. She was born November 2, 1924 in Vanceburg, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Isa (Walker) Singleton, husband, Raymond Bowen, Sr., and daughter, Judy Williams. Norma is survived by two sons: Raymond Bowen, Jr. of Manchester, and James “Bob” Bowen and wife Marlene of Manchester; one brother, Donald Singleton of Maysville, Kentucky; five grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one great great grandaughter, and many nieces and nephews. Norma was a homemaker. In her younger years, she had been a waitress at Moyer’s Winery, Olde Wayside Inn, and Sue’s Truck Stop. Memorial donations may be made to the Wilson’s Children’s Home, 300 N. Jack C Dean, 92, of Manchester, Ohio died Wednesday, March 28, 2018 in Adams County, Ohio. He was born on October 8, 1925 to the late Jack C and Ruth H (Day) Dean in Kentucky.

Jack was a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran and a former pilot for Proctor & Gamble. He loved the outdoors and was known as an interesting storyteller.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his children: Patrick C Dean and Judy A Lucas, his son in law: Jack Huelsman, and his brothers: Glen Dean and Bill Dean.

Jack is survived by his daughter: Cheryl “Missy” Huelsman of Harrison, OH, his companion: Connie Taylor of Manchester, OH, Connie’s children: Bobbi (Gabe) Hoskins, Tim Taylor, and John (Mandy) Taylor all of Manchester, OH, his grandchildren: Wendy Lucas, John (Kathy) Lucas, Sarah (Mike) Wilson, Adam (Angie) Stacy-Huelsman, Krissia (Bill) Purdin, Patricia Sue Dean, Alli Taylor, Nikolas (Kristen) Hoskins, Wiatt Taylor, and Brayden Hoskins, great grandchildren: Dawson and Savannah Stacy-Huelsman, Conner and Caleb Wilson, Jacob Lucas, and one on the way and his faithful dog Ringo.

Christopher Gene Lewis, 39, born July 16, 1978 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Sherry Lewis and Roy Hill, passed away on March 26, 2018 at 11:30 p.m. at Eagle Creek Nursing Home. He was a father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, and uncle. He was a great person inside and out and his personality and presence in life will beforever missed. He is survived by his children; Christopher Lewis Jr, Joshua Lewis, Kristy Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Landen Lewis, Michael Lewis, and Patricia Lewis all of Cincinnati, Ohio;his parents; Sherry and Earl Lawson of Mt. Orab, Ohio; his brother, Mikey (Jeannie) Lawson of Georgetown, Ohio; his sisters, Cheryl (Kevin) Bolduc of Michigan,Jammie (Chris) Clifton of Mt. Steven P. Blackburn, 55 years, of Milford, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at the Victory Ridge VA Hospice Care Center, in Dayton, Ohio. Steven was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on July 9, 1962, the son of Paul Blackburn and Stella Fields Blackburn. He was preceded in death by his father, and by an infant sister, Vickie Lynn. After his service in the United States Air Force, Steven worked as a security guard. Steven is survived by his mother, Stella Blackburn, of Lebanon; and a sister, Teresa Winkler, also of Lebanon. Steven also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts, who will mourn his passing. Lloyd Hayslip, Jr., 85, of West Union, Ohio formerly of Lynx, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the Eagle Creek Nursing Center in West Union. He was born September 24, 1932 in Hillsboro, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ida (Price) Hayslip, Sr., wife, Emma (Cooper) Hayslip, daughter, Linda May, son, Roger Hayslip, brother Robert Hayslip, and sister, Gloria Fenton. Junior is survived by his daughters: Connie (Phil) Blevins and Patty (Jay) Shiveley, both of Lynx; daughter-in- law Tina Hayslip of Lynx; three sisters: Ocie (Ron) Bunch of Williamsburg, Kentucky, Janet (Joe) Risch of Marion, Ohio, and Carol (Ed Salsbury) Knauff of Seaman; three brothers: Tom Hayslip of Seaman, Ray (Patty) Hayslip of West Union, and J.B. (Shelda) Hayslip of Lynx; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Junior retired from DP&L after 20 years of employment. He had been a superintendent of the Adams County Water Company for 13 years. He was the owner and operator of Hayslip Trucking, and had worked for Hayslip Solid Waste for 7 years. Junior had many jobs during his lifetime. Junior was a member of the East Liberty Community Church in Lynx since 1999. He was a member of the Ohio Laborers Union in Portsmouth. He was a 1949 graduate of Jefferson High School, and he had not missed one day of school in 12 years. He had also been President of the Jefferson High School Alumni. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Leoma Osburn, brothers, Gary Osburn and John Evans, and sisters, Linda Dixon and Janet Smith. Judy is survived by her husband, Roger Thornberry of Blue Creek; children: Roger (Laurie) Thornberry of Minford, Ohio, Denise Thornberry of West Union, Ohio, Melissa (James) Garcia of Canon City, Colorado, and Jason Thornberry of Indian River, Michigan; two sisters: Bernice O’Bryant and Helen Free; brother, Ronnie Osburn; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Judy attended the Cedar Mills Community Church. She loved spending time with her family, and sending cards to others was her special gift. Visitation is from 11 am until 1 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union. The funeral service will follow at 1 pm with Pastor Tim Daniel officiating. Burial will be at White Oak Cemetery near Cedar Mills. Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union is serving the family.

Edna Christine (Nelson) Blevins, 85, of West Union, Ohio formerly of Stout, Ohio passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Viola (Hamilton) Nelson, husband, Harry Blevins and son, Tommy Weghorst. She is survived by her children: Gary (Nancy) Blevins of Stout, Ohio, Sheila (Tommy) Hobbs of Blue Creek, Ohio, Rhonda (Alvin) Stanfield of West Union, Larry Weghorst of Stout, Ollie Weghorst of Stout, Kay Dibene of California, and Sharon Bolton of Texas; sisters: Louise Wamsley and Francis Saunders, both of Lancaster, Ohio ; brother, Forest (Bud) Nelson of West Union; 13 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; special friend, Dutch Gifford, and many nieces and nephews. Edna attended the Sunshine Ridge Church of God. She loved her family and friends, and she was proud to have so many wonderful grand and great grandchildren. The visitation is from 6 until 8 pm on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union. The funeral is on Thursday, April 5 at 10 am with Pastor Greg Cooper officiating. Burial will be at Sunshine Ridge Cemetery in Green Township in Adams County. Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union is serving the family.

Shirley Louise Cox, 83, of Winchester, Ohio died at Adams County Regional Medical Center on Saturday, April 7, 2018. Shirley was born January 8, 1935 the daughter of the late Clarence and Opal (Pence) Oberschlake. She was a graduate of Manchester High School and a home health aide for 30+ years. Shirley loved caring for her family, especially her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She also spent time canning food.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard Marl Cox; and her son, Howard “Bud” Earl Cox. She is survived by her children, Mary (Garry) Ross of West Union, Tammy (Donald) Sheridan of Manchester, Marlene (Roscoe) Louden of West Union, and Lori (Cecil) Resor of Mt. Orab; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Harold Oberschlake of Ripley, Estel Oberschlake of Bethel, Wilbert Oberschlake of Georgetown, Donald Oberschlake of Orville, California, and Norma Griffis of Bethel.

A funeral for Shirley will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Wilson Home for Funerals. Burial will follow at Manchester Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
