Charles H McGovney Jr

Charles Hugh McGovney Jr. age 69, formerly of Adams County, passed away at his home in Amelia, Ohio on Friday, January 19, 2018. Charles, known to friends as Hugh, was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on August 5, 1948 to Charles McGovney Sr. and Ellen (Johnson) McGovney. Hugh graduated from West Union High School in 1966 and married Sue Ella Fristoe on December 19, 1970. He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother John. He is survived by Sue, his devoted wife of 47 years, nieces Jodi Sewell, of Denver, Colorado, and Lisa Habiger of St. Louis, Missouri, sister-in- law, Gail McGovney, of Spring Hill, Florida and several members of the Blake Family in West Union, Ohio. Hugh was an employee of Blake Pharmacy in West Union and Manchester for 50 years. He started at age 16, manning the soda fountain and worked as a pharmacist after graduating from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy in 1971. During his years at Blake’s he made hundreds of friends and never met a stranger. He loved life and his lifelong friends from West Union and pharmacy school. Hugh was known for his quick wit, teasing, humorous words of wisdom and jokes. Remember his humor and smile when you think of him. He would like that. Lisa Dawn Dooloukas age 45 years of Stout, Ohio passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. Lisa was born February 6, 1972 the daughter of Danny and Phyllis (Stepp) Spires in Portsmouth, Ohio. Survivors include her husband David Dooloukas of Stout, OH; three daughters Ronni Spires of Stout, OH; Tina Taylor of Germantown, KY; Ashleigh Klickner of Winchester, OH; sister Mellissa Fryman of Maysville, KY; brother Trevor Spires of Stout, OH; three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Noon at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home with Wayne Harper officiating. Burial will follow in the Sandy Springs Cemetery. James D Bishop

James D. Bishop, 81 years, of Peebles, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at his residence. James was born in Kentucky, on July 19, 1936, the son of the late Alex Bishop and Polly Shoope Bishop. James was a United States Army veteran, having served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. James was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Lily Banks and Ruth Bradford. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hale Bishop, whom he married on July 6, 1957. James is also survived by his son, Jeff (Tonya) Bishop, and by his daughter, Kimberly (Mark) Sparks, both of Fairfield Township. He leaves behind six brothers, Lonnie Bishop, Alex Bishop, Bobby Bishop, Greg Bishop, Rick Bishop, and Arnold Bishop, all of Indiana; as well as three sisters, Wilma Slagle, of Georgia; Helen Tincher, of Trenton, Ohio; and Sharon Bishop, of Indiana. James will be missed by his four grandchildren, Megan, Brad, Jeffrey, and Brandon, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, in Peebles. The ceremony will be officiated by Dave Hopkins. Burial will follow in the Strait Creek Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Adams County Honor Guard. Mary Lee Dixon, 87 years of Winchester, passed away on Thursday January 25, 2018 in Batavia. She was born in Ashland, KY on January 27, 1930, the daughter of the late Charles and Arleen (Wright) Lewis. Besides her parents, she was also preceded by her son, Donald Joe Dixon. Mary Lee is survived by her husband, of 70 years, Donald Dixon, whom were married on January 3, 1948, daughter, Vicki (Ray) Olberding of Batavia, three grandchildren: Andrew (Sharona) Olberding, Timothy (Suzie) Olberding and Samantha (Michael) Sheppard, eight great grandchildren: Tanner, Tate, Taylee, Ashton, Ayden, Adyer, Ty and Jay, brother, Gene Lewis of Florida, sister, Ruth Ann Williamson of Cincinnati and daughter-in- law, Susan Dixon of Williamsburg. Phyllis (Campton) Morgan, 88, of West Union, Ohio passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Clermont Mercy Hospital in Batavia, Ohio. She was born October 14, 1929 in Cedar Mills in Adams County, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl “Ted” Campton and Dorothy (Louderback) Staggs; two sons: Charles “Butch” Morgan and Michael Morgan, and sister, Reda Bloom. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Julian) Wood of Tifton, Georgia; three grandchildren: Amanda, Heather, and Danielle; three great grandchildren: Tyler, Jacie, and Bradyn; one nephew, Billy, and one niece, Beverly “Sis”. Phyllis had worked at Eagle Creek Nursing Center and Copeland Corporation in West Union. She had also been a waitress at the Dew-Drop Inn and 125 Grill in West Union. The private Graveside service was Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the West Union Village Cemetery in West Union. Pastor Johnny Jones officiated. Lafferty Funeral Home of West Union is served the family.

James “Doug” Lewis passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends on Saturday, January 27, 2018. Doug was born July 25, 1944 in Allock, Kentucky to the late Walter Aden and Vivian Forrest (Morgan) Lewis. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Doug was a US Army Veteran and a former maintenance man for the West Union McDonalds for 17.5 years. Aside from spending time with his family Doug enjoyed attending church. Survivors include his loving wife of 33 years Kay Lewis of West Union, OH; two sons Jim Lewis of West Union, OH; Michael Lewis of West Union, OH; three step daughters Lisa Palmer of West Union, OH; Bobbi Humphreys of West Union, OH; Michelle Robinson of West Union, OH; brother Norval Lewis of Ohio; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many other family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the Thompson – Meeker Funeral Home with Bill Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirker Cemetery. Donald C. Collins age 78 years of West Union, Ohio passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Clermont Mercy Hospital. Mr. Collins was born March 5, 1939 the son of the late Olney and Maudie (Hall) Collins in Martin, Kentucky. Besides his parents Mr. Collins was preceded in death by two brothers John Bailey Collins and Douglas Collins. Mr. Collins retired with 21 years of service with the United States Marine Corp. He also retired from the Veterans Administration in Huntington West Virginia. Survivors include his wife Mary Howard Collins of West Union, OH; one son Edwin Collins of Lexington, Kentucky; two sisters Carol Nelson of Prichard, West Virginia; Christiner Bolar of Prichard, West Virginia; Sister in law and Brother in law Allean & Jack Myers of West Union, OH; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Marilyn Faye Chandler, age 79 of Ripley, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Hospice of Hope Care Center at Kenton Pointe in Maysville, Kentucky. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Ripley, Ohio. Mrs. Chandler was born July 28, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of the late Ralph and Sarah Lou (Eads) Watson. She was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law – Wanda and Jim Oldendick; one brother – Bob Watson. Mrs. Chandler is survived by her loving husband of sixty-one years – Don Chandler; three loving daughters – Terri Davis of Ripley, Ohio, Dee Dee Stevens (Ed) of West Union, Ohio and Carolyn Deaton of Ripley, Ohio; one loving son – David Chandler (Pam) of Decatur, Ohio; six grandchildren – Beth Keiffer (Aaron), Justin Stevens, Kandis Stevens, Christina Haughn (Justin), Tiffany Deaton and Josh Deaton; five step-grandchildren – Cody Little, Danni Goslin, Devin Puckett, Dusty Puckett and Kayci Chandler; three great grandchildren – Emmett Keiffer, Lilith Haughn and Maverick Stevens; two step-great grandchildren – Kaden Goslin and Kristen Goslin; one sister – Brenda Gast (Alan) of Ripley, Ohio; one brother – Dan Watson (Vickie) of Ash Ridge, Ohio; many nieces and nephews. Allen Buschard, 75, passed away Friday, January 26 2018 at the Adams County Regional Medical Center in Seaman, OH. He was born to Raymond Buschard and Mattie (Lanter) Buschard on April 1, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie (Cantrell) Buschard; two sisters: Betty Buschard and Lorelie (Buschard) Digby; three brothers: William, Perry, and Roger Buschard; and nine infant children. Allen is survived by one daughter, Rachel Buschard of West Union, Ohio; two sisters: Ruth Buschard of Bedford, Indiana and Muerrel Malone and husband Barry of Winchester, Ohio, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that all loved him very much. Allen had worked at Faye Apartments in Cincinnati, Ohio as a maintenance technician prior to his retirement. He was a long time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The visitation is 11 am until 12 pm Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union. The funeral is at 12 pm with Bishop Matt Armstrong officiating. Richard N. Conway, 76 years of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday January 30, 2018 at the Hospice of Hope in Seaman, Ohio. He was born in Cincinnati on April 2, 1941, the son of the late Edward and Lucille (Taliaferro) Conway. Besides his parents, he was also preceded by his brother, Edward Conway and sister, Rosalie Shiveley. Richard was a member of the Winchester Baptist Church. Richard is survived by his wife, June (Ball) Conway, whom were married on February 1, 1965, two sons, Richard D. Conway, Jr. of Winchester and Gary Conway of Winchester, two grandchildren, Makayla and Sam, three sisters, Mary Fritz of Wilmington, Betty (Clarence) Stephenson of Peebles and Lucille Wolfe of Mt. Janet E. Jackson, age 62, of Manchester, Ohio passed away suddenly at Meadowview Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Janet was born on July 15, 1955 in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of the late Lovell and Melissa (Ewen) McGlothlin. She was a devoted Christian and attended the Voice of Hope Church in Chillicothe until her health no longer allowed. Janet was a homemaker and loved her family. She had an especially close bond with her sisters. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Thomas Jackson; her granddaughter, Heaven Elaine Thomas; and her siblings, Shirley Crowder and Benny McGlothlin. She is survived by her children, William Jackson of East Liverpool, Ohio, Loretta (Nathan) Thomas of Stapleton, Georgia, and Melissa Jackson; her siblings, Juanita McGlothlin of Manchester, Joyce McGlothlin of Manchester, Garnett Seal of Ripley, and Tim (Becky) McGlothlin of Middletown, Ohio; and many other family members and friends. Louise was born in Fleming County, Kentucky on October 16, 1929 the daughter of the late Nunley and Fanny (Hinton) Helphenstine. She worked at Welded Wire as a factory worker for 20+ years and attended the Wrightsville Church. Louise loved her family and had an especially close bond with her two grandsons, Mark and Travis Gilkison. Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and her two brothers and a sister. She is survived by her children, Bonnie Hendrickson of Circleville, Ohio, Donald Prince of Orlando, Florida, John Prince of Manchester, Ohio, Connie Ruthburn of Circleville, Ohio, and Mark Gilkison of Manchester, Ohio; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. A funeral service for Louise will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at the Wrightsville Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 pm until the time of the service. Rev. Esther A. Stinson of Mt. Orab, Ohio, formerly of Cherry Fork, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at the age of 91. Esther was the beloved mother of Robert D. (Pam) Stinson and Duane E. (Ricquel) Stinson; loving grandmother of Marc, Todd, Beth, Brandon and Brett; caring great-grandmother of Gabby, Michaela, Maureen, Mae, Parker, Carter and Elijah; and loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D. Stinson; her parents, Charles Emery and Ethel Esther Daulton; her aunt, Goldeigh May Eldridge; two brothers, Robert P. Daulton and Milburn Daulton; and two sisters, Opal P. Blair and Garnet Kidder.
Mrs. Stinson was a lifetime member of the Mt. Orab United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at the Megie Funeral Home in Mt. Orab. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mt. Orab Cemetery.

Harry R Buttelwerth

Harry R. Buttelwerth, passed away on January 3, 2018 at the age of 89. He leaves behind his beloved and dear wife of 41 years, Peggy (Greenlee/Dryden) Buttelwerth. Harry was proud and loving father to his children Beverle (Kenneth) Rosemeyer, Harry (Denise) Buttelwerth, Marcia Buttelwerth and Joseph Buttelwerth and stepson Randy (Teresa) Dryden. Harry’s loving family includes 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren all who loved summer holiday’s at Grandpa and Grandma’s pool which were among Harry’s happiest days. Harry was born the second of ten children to Harry J. and Elizabeth Helen Buttelwerth on February 19, 1928. He learned meaning of family love and commitment from his parents, brothers and sisters. Cherished brother of Donald (Ada) Buttelwerth, Margaret Klingensmith, Donna Zloba and Drs. Judy (James) Meyers and brother-in- law of Lois Buttelwerth and Nancy Buttelwerth. Preceeded in death by his parents and siblings – John & Rhea Buttelwerth, Helen & Robert Schwiegeraht, Frank Buttelwerth, Larry Buttelwerth, Geoann & Lou Eckstein, Glenn Klingensmith, Paul Zloba. Harry graduated from Elder High School and Xavier High School where he earned a reputation for being an accomplished Drum Major during all four years until graduating from both schools. He entertained and taught many students his award winning baton twirling abilities while competing with his brothers and sister, Donna. He was employed with Hill & Griffith and Sun Chemical of Cincinnati. He accomplished many feats and was elected to many positions. The following are a few of his many positions.

And perhaps the one position which changed his life immensely was:  President of Southwestern Ohio Region-Parents without Partners where he met the joy and love of his life – his wonderful wife and devoted, Peggy. Harry wished there to be no flowers, only one yellow rose on the altar. If anyone would care to make any donations please make them to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in West Union in Harry’s name. Special thanks to the past and present pastors of Holy Trinity – Father Ted Kosse and Father Adam Puntel. The comfort and grace of God were present with their continued support and friendship during Harry’s illness. Special recognition and thanks to Dr. William Hablitzel and Ms. Dawne Hamilton who were more than a medical team but were great and caring friends, who went above and beyond to comfort and care for Harry, and support his family, in the final months of his life. Also, special gratitude to Hospice of Hope at Adams County Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home of West Union, Ohio. His memorial mass will be held Saturday 2/17/18 (three days before he would have turned 90) at 1:00 P.M., to be immediately followed by a luncheon held at Holy Trinity’s reception hall located behind the church. Lowell Duffey passed away February 6, 2018 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Tranquility, Ohio to the late William Carl Duffey and Carrie Viola Duffey. Duffey attended and graduated from Seaman Public Schools in Seaman, Ohio; Maryville College in Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology; Kansas State University with a Master’s Degree in Zoology; and Indiana University with a Doctorate in Zoology. He taught courses in Zoology, Anatomy, Embryology, Genetics, Cell Biology, and Evolution for over thirty-five years, holding positions at colleges and universities in Alabama, Arkansas, South Dakota, and Texas. He retired from Jacksonville State University, Alabama, where he was honored as Professor Emeritus of Biology. He was very proud of his students, especially those who became scientists, nurses, CNAs, and physicians. Duffey is survived by his wife, Joyce Lenderman Duffey; son, Tim Duffey; daughter, Susan Duffey Campbell and husband, Michael, all of Colorado Springs; son, Chris Duffey and wife, Debbie of Clackamas, Oregon; and grandchildren, Ruth Campbell and husband, Matt Nykiel, Jessica Duffey, Angus Campbell, and Michaela Duffey. Duffey was a member of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association of Anatomists, and Sigma Xi. Outside of his teaching and research, Duffey enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing in South Dakota, especially with former student and friend, Rock Boyd, MD. In retirement, he and his friend, Marcia Peura of California, researched and wrote a book on the history of the Cross, Duffey, and Ramsay Families. Larry Graham, 77, of Peebles, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born October 3, 1940 in Meigs Township in Adams County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Emma (Hall) Graham, and son, Mick Graham. Larry is survived by his wife, Dena (Crothers) Graham of Peebles; daughter, Tami Graham of Peebles; and many nieces and nephews. Larry retired after 31 years as a crane operator for the Ohio Department of Transportation. After his retirement, he operated his own trucking business for 24 years. Larry was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Highland Lodge #38 in Hillsboro. At his request, Larry will be cremated. The family will have a memorial service at a later date. Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union is serving the family.

Roger W. Fisher, age 79 years of West Union, passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018 at the Adams County Manor. Roger was born Dec. 8, 1938, the son of the late Guy and Kate (Newman) Fisher in Adams County, Ohio. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Leah Rae Davis and Marilynn Adams, and his brother Ronald Lee Fisher. Roger was a carpenter, masonry, and worked with concrete for 50 years. He attended the Solid Rock Ministry. Roger was a former member of the Manchester Fire Department and a Mason. Survivors include his wife Barbara Ann (Hafer) Fisher of West Union; daughters Angie Crothers and Eddie of West Union, Kathy Miller and Tim of Milford, Ohio, Rae Jean Tarter of Milford, Ohio, and Kim Wiederhold and Frank of Batavia, Ohio; step daughter Bonnie Hensley and John of West Union; son Devin Chandler of West Union; stepsons Randy Scott and Tammy of Manchester, and Mike Scott and Mary of Manchester; sister Susie Bryant of Hillsboro, Ohio; brother Dennis Fisher of Eastgate, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb, 15, 2018 at noon at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home in West Union with Jack Arrasmith officiating. Burial will follow in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018 from 5- 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Harold E. Allen, 97, of Lynx, Ohio passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his home. He was born June 9, 1920 in Manchester, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dove (Bradford) Allen; wife, Frances (Grooms) Allen, and two brothers, Floyd and Malcolm Allen. Harold is survived by two sisters: Loveda Grooms of Springboro, Ohio and Geneva Palmer of Morrow, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Harold retired in 1977 after 30 years with Delco Products Division of GM. He was a Veteran of the Army Air Force serving in WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Walter Harris Post 100 in West Union. He was a member of the International Electrical Union, and the West Union Senior Citizens Club. The visitation is from 11 am until 1 pm on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union. The funeral service will follow at 1 pm. Burial will be at East Liberty Cemetery in Lynx. Lafferty Funeral Home is serving the family.
