Clarice Faye Knauff, age 85, of Blue Creek, Ohio, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at the SOMC Inpatient Hospice Unit. Gladys C. Thompson age 90 years of Centerville, Ohio formerly of Adams County, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017. Gladys was born on May 4, 1927 in Rarden, Ohio the daughter of the late Calvin and Essie (George) Hart. Rachel Savage Hite, age 62, of Xenia, passed away at Hospice of Dayton in Dayton on Sunday, December 17, 2017. She was born on March 23, 1955 in West Union, Ohio, the youngest daughter of the late Charles W. Savage and Gracie Mae Gustin Savage. She is also preceded in death by five sisters: Bernice Myers, Louvina Savage, Martha Crothers, Mary Whaley and Olive Satterfield, and by a brother, Ira Savage. She married Thomas Hite on June 15, 1974. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Thomas Hite; daughters, Jenifer (Nick) Alger of Ada, Ohio, Heather Hite Xenia, Ohio, and Ruth (Jeff) Kempf of Pandora, Ohio; grandchildren, Maeby Alger, Cash Alger, Fox Alger, Kayana Nakamura, Anna Kempf, Grady Kempf, Charlie Kempf and Sawyer Kempf; a sister, Betty (Jack) Outram; and four brothers; William (Nancy) Savage, Jerry (Bobbie) Savage, Charles (Carol) Savage and John (Jeannie) Savage. She attended the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Xenia. Rachel loved the Lord and served in several churches alongside her husband as well as ministries of her own. Her children and her grandchildren were always her greatest pride and joy and she loved them immensely. She had many close friends who she treasured. On Saturday, January 6th the family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 195 W 3rd St, Xenia, Ohio. Chester (Chet) Lee Sininger, 87, passed away on December 14, 2017 at his home. He was preceded in death by his son Timmy Craig, parents Raymond and Ruth Sininger, and brothers Bob (Toni), John (Elsie), Harry (Katie), Tom (Shirley), and Jim (Eleanor). Chet is survived by his son, Daniel and daughter-in- law Melinda of San Ramon, CA, grandson, Kevin of Charlotte, NC, granddaughter, Megan of San Ramon, CA, and brothers Bill (Bessie) of West Union, Ralph (Jane) of Georgetown, Harold (Betty) of Georgetown, sisters Miriam (Dale) Swearingen of Medina, Eleanor (Bud) of Georgetown, many nieces and nephews and their families, and Betty Sininger/Weimer. After graduating from West Union High School, Chet was employed by Dorton Implement Co. before being drafted into the Army. He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado during the Korean War years. After his discharge, Chet was employed with City Loan and Savings in West Union, Hillsboro, and Circleville, OH. Later, Chet managed the loan departments at Hocking Valley Bank and Bank One in Athens, OH before retiring. He relocated back to West Union and once there, was convinced to return into the banking business at the 5th/3rd Bank in Manchester, OH from where he later permanently retired. Chet was an active member in the community and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Athens, OH. He was always interested in and followed all levels of sports. Chet personally played on both baseball and golf teams during his early years and enjoyed watching/attending various other sporting events. Chet also enjoyed antique cars and participated in several Antique Car Shows. Chet cherished his trips to his son, Daniel’s alma mater of Ohio University, his grandchildren’s universities of Purdue (Kevin) and Tulane (Megan), and also his annual trips with family members (brothers and nephews) to high school basketball playoffs at both Ohio University and Columbus, OH, rooting for the local teams. Chet will be remembered for his kindness, helpfulness and strong ties to his family. He will be tremendously missed by all who knew him. Neil Shivener Jr. age 47 years of Blue Creek, Ohio, passed away Saturday December 30, 2017 at the Hospice of Hope Inpatient Center at the Adams County Regional Medical Center. Neil was born on November 3, 1970 the son of Neil and Carmen (Miranda) Shivener Sr. in Adams County, Ohio. Neil was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Faye Miranda, Chester and Florence Shivener, and Elizabeth Owens, father-in- law Butch Hodge. Neil was a heavy equipment operator for John R. Lawrence J Reynolds passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Mt. Orab Mercy Medical Center. Lawrence was born November 15, 1935 in Adams County, OH the son of the late JB and Beulah (Fisher) Reynolds. He grew up in Decatur and after marriage moved to Georgetown. He was an active member of the Georgetown Church of Christ and attended faithfully every Sunday. He was a member of the Georgetown Masonic Lodge and Shriners of Cincinnati. He retired from Cincinnati Milacron where he worked for 40 years. He served his country for 36 months and was in Korea for 12 of those months. He was proud to serve his country. He is survived by Phyllis, his loving wife of 62 years. To this union two sons were born – Lonnie (Kim) Reynolds and Larry (Jamie) Reynolds and one grandson Lee Reynolds. He is also survived by his sister Joyce (Doug) Carter and brother Dale (Lisa) Reynolds. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends, but his good deeds will remain in our hearts forever as he was always ready to lend a hand to everyone. Jerry L Kayser
Jerry Lee Kayser age 77 years of North Bend, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at his residence. Jerry was born March 5, 1940 the son of the late Clayton Ellsworth and Theresa Belle (Belcher) Kayser in Portsmouth, Ohio. Jerry was preceded in death by a brother Marshall Lyn Kayser. Jerry graduated from Manchester High School and after graduation Jerry served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962 and was honorably discharged. Jerry worked as a First Class Repairman of CG&E for 17 years, he was a proud member of the Rome Masonic Lodge #535 and the Lawrenceburg #4 Free American Masons, and a member of the American Legion Post 23 Portsmouth, Ohio. Jerry “AKA River Rat” as he liked to be called, loved attending events with the Rocky Mountain National Rendezvous Bosshway in Colorado. He had a found enjoyment of Native American Culture and participating in activities related to The Trail of Tears. He participated in the performance of Blue Jacket and even loved camping in authentic Wigwams and camping in his personal Tee Pee. He collected artifacts such as buckskins, tomahawks and Dream Catchers and collected buckeyes. He had old rifles and black powder muzzle loaders. Jerry was an avid University of Kentucky Basketball fan. He had good friends he enjoyed visiting from Colorado David and Kim Ritchie. Jerry loved wearing his cowboy boots and listening to the country singers Reba McEntire and George Jones. He even had pictures with these singing legends in his house. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and shard in his life. Survivors include his children, sisters Mary Ruth Parker of Batavia, Ohio; Beverly Jo Kayser of Cincinnati, Ohio; Carol an Cannon of Macon Georgia; brother Larry “Paul” Kayser of Macon Georgia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Michael N. Davis, 61 years of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017. Mike was born May 6, 1956 in Hillsboro, the son of Wilbur N. and Ruth A. (Martin) Davis of Hillsboro. Mike was a 1974 graduate of Hillsboro High School; attended Ohio Northern University; a 1978 graduate of the 101st Academy Class of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Mike retired in 1999 after 22 years of service from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. In 2000 Mike started a career in banking with First State Bank. Mike was a former DeMolay Member; 1996 Trooper of the Year at the Georgetown Post; Treasurer of the Ohio Troopers Coalition; Past President of the Ohio Troopers Caring and was serving as the Secretary of the Hillsboro Rotary Club. Beside his parents Wilbur and Ruth Davis, Mike is survived by his wife Rhonda J. (Rawlins) Davis who were united in marriage on September 15, 1979. He is survived by two sons, Gregory M. (Whitney S.) Davis of Circleville, OH. and Nicholas G. Davis of Cincinnati, OH.; two daughters, Kristin M.L. (Robert P.) Finnerty of Howard, OH. and Jaimee R. Davis of Cincinnati, OH.; three grandchildren, Sage Finnerty, Madison Finnerty and Gideon G. Davis; one sister, Debra J. Carl Richard Jones, 73 years, of Peebles, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017, at the Crestwood Ridge Skilled Nursing and Rehab, in Hillsboro. Carl was born in Peebles, Ohio, on March 5, 1944, the son of the late William Jones and Audra O’Dell Jones. In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Jones. He is survived by his wife, Garnett Marie Esquibel Jones, whom he married on September 9, 1963. Carl is also survived by his son, Carlton Jones, of Seaman; and five daughters, Cheryl (David) Whisman, of Ripley; Teresa Jones, of West Union; Deborah Hall, of Seaman; Billie Jo Hall, of Miamisburg; and Denise (Dwayne) Behymer, of Mt. Orab. He also leaves behind four brothers, Ray Jones, of Hillsboro; and Keith Jones, Tony Jones, and Bob Jones, all of Seaman. Carl will be missed by his thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Roger Dean Robinson, 55, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018. He was born March 27, 1962 in Maysville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Ronnie Robinson. Dean is survived by his mother, Hester Sue (Bilyeu) Robinson; brother, Craig; sister, Sheri; his wife, Rachel; sons, Zachery Robinson and Samuel Grooms; daughters, Kayliegh Robinson and Daisy Grooms; many special cousins, nieces and nephews, and longtime special friends, Gene Laney and Chad Lewis. Dean was a former employee of GE in Peebles and a carpenter. He was enjoying retirement to the fullest and riding as hard as he lived his life. Colonel James E Foster
The earthly journey of life began Nov. 6, 1926 for James Edenfield Foster on a farm near Winchester in Adams County, Ohio, and concluded Dec. 25, 2017 in Austin, Texas. He has now joined his beloved wife, Alice Louise, for eternity.
Jim Foster was the son of Paul Garland and Josie Evelyn Edenfield Foster. He attended and graduated from Purdue University, University of Nebraska, and George Washington University with advanced degrees in engineering and computer science.
Colonel Foster was a 33-year veteran of the United States Army, a man of dedication to family, to duty, and to country. He volunteered to his country’s call for service during World War II, and continued his service through Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War. He was a highly decorated officer having served in various command and staff roles throughout his distinguished career. He was the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Computer Systems Command, when he retired and moved to Austin in 1977.
In 1948 at Fort Lewis, Washington, he met and married the love of his life, Alice “Louise” Roberts. Their marriage of 54 years was blessed with three daughters and one son: Anita Louise Foster Carroll (Robert), Goode, Va.; Anna Kathleen Foster Stern (James), Austin, Texas, who passed away in 2013; Patricia Allene Foster, Asheville, NC, who passed away in 2009; and James Christopher Foster (Karen), Nixa, Missouri.
His seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren will also miss him greatly: Sheri McAdams Nelson (David) and daughter, Brooke; Shelley McAdams; Ashley Beard and son, Caleb; Sandra Stern Barron (Oliver); Steven Stern (Marett) and son, Sorin; Jamie Foster Rodriguez (Marcos) and daughter, Alannah; and Kevin Foster.
Colonel Foster was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Louise, in 2002; two of his daughters; his parents; his younger brother, Walter Donald Foster; and younger sisters: Alice Florence Foster Frost and Nellie Lee Foster Elliott; and sons-in-law: Captain Thomas Arthur McAdams (K.I.A. Vietnam in 1969) and Alan James Beard.
After his military service. he embarked on another successful career in public purchasing and education. He instituted statewide contracts for the procurement of computer related and highly technical equipment used by Texas state agencies and universities. The National Institute of Governmental Purchasing specially honored him with a national award in 1982 for his expertise and tax-saving methodologies, which benefited the state of Texas and others. He instituted and conducted an education program for purchasers within the Texas Dept. of Transportation and taught similar courses at the University of Texas, Austin. For his many and varied contributions to the state of Texas, Colonel Foster was honored by being appointed an “Admiral in the Texas Navy” by Texas Governor William P. Clements on Dec. 3, 1990.
Jim was a member of the Rotary Club of Austin-Oak Hill, which honored him as “Rotarian of the Year: 2003-2004”, “Service Above Self Award: 2006-2007”, and “Rotary District 5870 Roll of Fame: 2008”.
He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, oil painting, and reading. He will be remembered for his extensive genealogy research and documentation on several branches of his family ancestry. As a devoted family man and friend, he embodied integrity, rational thinking, faithfulness to God, appreciation of nature, stewardship of resources, courage during adversity, strength of character, high moral values, perseverance, loyalty, fairness, and unconditional love. He inspired both family and friends with his charisma and mischievous sense of humor. His spontaneous smile and friendly personality will always be an inspiration to everyone he encountered.
He shall rest for eternity alongside his beloved “Louise” in the Forest Oaks Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill, Austin, Texas, with other cherished members of his family. Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 5 from 6- 8 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Gardens with a memorial service to be held there on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 10 a.m. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.mem.com.

Martha (Staten) Hayslip, 76, of West Union, Ohio passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Adams County Regional Medical Center in Seaman, Ohio. She was born May 19, 1941 in Adams County, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Hazel (Howard) Staten; husband, Berlin Hayslip, Sr.; sister, Rosemary (Staten) Staggs; two brothers: Kenneth Staten and John D. Staten. Martha is survived by two sons: Berlin Hayslip, Jr. and wife Linda of Lynx, and James Hayslip and wife Jonna of West Union; three sisters: Virginia Copas and Beulah Ayers of West Union, and Emily Browning of Columbus; two brothers: David Staten and Oliver Staten, both of West Union; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Martha had worked as a nurse’s aide for several years. She attended the Mt. Armenia Church in Lynx. Becky was born in Adams County, on December 23, 1923, the daughter of the late William and Mary Swogger Houchen. In addition to her parents, Becky was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Shoemaker; daughters Peggy Dupree and Betty Shoemaker; son Rick Shoemaker; as well as a brother, Paul Houchen. Peggy J Potts, 58 years, of Peebles, Ohio, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018, at her home. Virginia Grooms
Virginia Grooms, age 89 years of West Union, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, 2018 at the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Inpatient Center in Seaman, Ohio. Virginia was born Sept. 2, 1928 in Mason County, Ky. the daughter of the late Lewis and Winnie (Bervard) Bean. Besides her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Coleman Grooms and son-in-law Lee Heston.
Virginia was a member of the West Union Christian Union Church and many local organizations.
Survivors include daughter Sally Heston of Kensington, Ohio; son Chester Grooms and Charlotte of West Union; grandchildren, Matthew Heston and Lucy, Amy May and Tony, Adam Grooms and Rachel; and great grandchildren, Cole May, Colin May, Harrison Heston and Darby Heston.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday Jan. 11, 2018 at 1 p.m.at the Thompson Meeker Funeral Home in West Union with Brian Justice officiating. Burial will follow in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held the day of the service from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gregory H Tepe
Gregory H. Tepe, RPh, age 60, passed away suddenly on Jan. 5, 2018. He was the loving husband of Madonna Tepe, cherished father of Greg Tepe, Mark (Megan) Tepe, and John (Miranda) Tepe, grandfather of Braylon, Garrett, Keagan, Cameron, Kenley, and Clara, dear brother of Debbie (Mike) Lenz and Doug (Donna) Tepe, uncle to Michael (Elena) Lenz, Amy Lenz, Kristin Tepe ,Brian Tepe, Michelle (Todd) Whipple, Dr. Matt (Dr. Whitney) Blanton, great-uncle of four, and brother-in-law of Susan Thomas, Mark (Debbie) Barnes, and son-in-law of Wendell Barnes.
Gregory was preceded in death by parents Harry and Jackie Tepe, and mother-in-law Doris Barnes.
He was a member of the Harrison Flying Club, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and grandkids.
Visitation will be held on Jan. 14, 2018 from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. at the Spring Grove Funeral Homes, 4389 Spring Grove Ave. 45223. Interment will be in in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Justin D Richmond
Justin Dwayne Richmond, age 31 of Manchester, born on July 24, 1986, earned his wings on Jan. 6, 2018 in Lakeville, Minn. He is survived by his parents, Sharon (Mike) Anderson of Manchester and Charlie (Nancy) Richmond of Liberty, SC; his wife Melissa Richmond of Celina, Ohio; one daughter, Paige Lovelace of Kansas; and two grandchildren.
He is also survived by brothers Dusty Richmond of Seaman, Colt (Leigh) Richmond of Manchester, Dillon (Dakota) Raines of Manchester, Curtis (Emily) Anderson of Peebles, Kodi and Dereck Richmond of Liberty, SC; and one sister Alyssa (Shaun) Boggs of Bainbridge, Ohio; Mother in Law Betty Houser of Rockford, Ohio;. Brother in Laws Mike Houser of Rockford, Ohio; Matt Houser of Ohio; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved with all his heart, many friends, and brothers and sisters in arms.
The maternal grandparents are Jim and Lola Stewart of Seaman along with paternal grandparent Donna Richmond of Stout. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Ernie Richmond of Stout.
Justin attended West Union High School and the OVCTC where he played baseball, and graduated in 2005. He was full of life, loved his family, an avid gamer, and loved being outdoors, especially hunting. He went from playing with toy guns to paintball guns to guns to defend our country. He was well known for his “Million Dollar Smile”.
Justin proudly served in the United States Army with the rank of Specialist from Feb. 8, 2007 to April 7, 2013, in the Military Police Company. While in the service he served two tours, one in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan. He earned the Bronze Star while serving in Afghanistan and also earned many other medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons from his service.
Although he was not presently actively serving in the Army, he had found his calling by working for a non-profit organization (Dancing Sky Ranch) in Minnesota that provides outdoor therapy to veterans, handicapped children, and others with disabilities. He was always willing to help and would go above and beyond just to make one smile.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018 at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home in West Union. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. with funeral services to follow with Ricky Richmond officiating. His final resting place will be at the Sandy Springs Cemetery with Military Graveside Services provided by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Geneva Shivener age 55 years of Manchester, Ohio passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Geneva was born March 24, 1962 the daughter of late Michael Thurman and Geneva Ruth (Wilson) Gaffin in West Union, Ohio. Survivors include her husband Michael W. Shivener of Manchester, OH; one daughter Lauren Shivener of Manchester, OH; two sons Michael J. Shivener and Tanji of Maysville, KY; Jared Shivener and Brooke of Manchester, OH; three sisters Rosie Copas and Ron of Seaman, OH; Lois Morgan and Tony of Bethel, OH; Karen Rolph of Manchester, OH; three brothers Michael Gaffin and Donna of Ocala, FL; John Gaffin and Sherry of Manchester, OH; Dewey Sweet of West Union, OH; three grandchildren Jared Shivener Jr., Lucia Shivener and Maggie Shivener. Nieces Tabbi Spires of Manchester, OH; Tiffany Rolph of Manchester, OH; Hillary Gaffin of Cincinnati, OH; nephews Gary Davis of Seaman, OH; Blake Blevins of Manchester, OH; John Marshall Gaffin of Batavia, OH.
