Della M Shoemaker

Della Mae Shoemaker, 79, of Manchester, Ohio died at Meadowview Regional Medical Center on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Della was born November 28, 1937 the daughter of the late William Edward Hunt and Carrie Ford (Parker) Tadlock. Della attended Manchester High School and worked at Welded Wire. She loved her family more than anything and always welcomed anyone and everyone into her home. In her free time, Della also loved to
attend her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s ball games and Song Fest at the New Beginnings Church in Manchester.
Della was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles William Shoemaker; her parents; and her siblings, James Hunt and Virgie Bradford. She is survived by her children, Linda Adkins of Manchester, Ohio, Eugene Shoemaker of Manchester, Ohio, Timothy (Mary) Shoemaker of Tollesboro, Kentucky, Brenda (Carlos) Rodriguez of Maysville, Kentucky, Tommy Shoemaker of Manchester, Ohio, and Larry Shoemaker of Manchester, Ohio; her siblings, Johnny Hunt of Cedar Mills, Ohio, Elizabeth Wikoff of Bentonville, Ohio, Thelma Little of Owensville, Kentucky, and Billy Tadlock of Bentonville, Ohio; her fifteen grandchildren; her many great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Della will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Wilson Home for Funerals. Rev. Dale Little will be officiating. Burial will take places at Manchester Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the funeral home on Sunday, September 17, 2017, and again on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Gregory Leo Scott, 48, of West Union, Ohio died at University of Cincinnati Hospital on Friday, September 15, 2017. Greg was born on October 18, 1968 in West Union, Ohio the son of the late Doris (Ware) Scott. He graduated from Manchester High School and was a laborer. Greg was also known as Greg “Guitar Man” Scott. He was an amazing musician, especially the guitar. When he wasn’t playing music, he also loved to fish.

Greg was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Jeffery Scott. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Linda (Hurley) Scott; his step-children, Tonya (James) Campbell and Gary Lee Ross both of Florida; his siblings, Bevelyn (Gerald) Caudill of Aberdeen, Ohio, Steve (Linda) Scott of Georgia, David Scott of Georgia, and Shane (Denise) Scott of Lexington, Kentucky; his five grandchildren; his dog, Scooter; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Greg will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Wilson Home for Funerals. Burial will take place at Manchester Cemetery. Cathy (Bertram) Unger, 52, of Blue Creek, Ohio passed away Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Inpatient Center in Seaman, Ohio. She was born October 20, 1964 in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Bertram and Phyllis (Brown) Stiles.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Rocky L. Unger of Blue Creek; one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Shelton and husband Dave of Lawshe; two sons: Rocky H. Unger and wife Gayle of Jefferson Township, and Matthew Unger and wife Tessa of New Boston; one sister, Sharon Boldman of Wamsleyville; one brother, Johnny Bertram of Manchester; 10 grandchildren, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Cathy had been the co-owner and operator of Ungers Window Cleaning for seven years. She had worked as a nurse’s aide, and had been employed at the Peebles Resident Home and Revmont Nursing Center.  She had also been employed as a waitress at the Olde Wayside Inn. Cathy attended the Blue Creek Community Church, and was a former member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

The Visitation will be Monday, September 18, 2017 from 11 am until 1 pm.  The Funeral will be at 1 pm with Pastor Julie Horsley officiating. Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery in Meigs Township in Adams County.  Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union is serving the family.

George E. Copher, 79 years of Gwinn, passed away on Thursday September 14, 2017 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans.

He was born in Winchester, Ohio on September 25, 1937, the son of the late John and Opal (Rogers) Copher. He married the former Barbara MacDougall-Niemi on January 1, 1984 at the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base.

George retired from the U.S. Air Force Civil Service in 1994 after 40 years of service.  He was a member of Marquette Lodge #101 Free and Accepted Masons and many other branches of Free Masonry, including Ahmed Temple Shrine. He was also the past president of the State Michigan Air Force Association. In his free time, George enjoyed golfing, snowmobiling and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Barb of Gwinn; children, Lela Renee Copher and her fiancé, Mike Hougom of Margate, FL; Wayne Alex Niemi and Penny Michelle Niemi both of Cedar Springs, MI; Todd Richard (Dana) Niemi of Amarillo, TX. Paulette (Gordon) Lynch of Virginia, and Everett Alex (Marguerite) Copher; 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; his sister, E. Girvan (Ron) Johnson of Highland Park, CO; also several nieces and nephews.

Friends and Family are invited to a 1:00 viewing on Sunday September 24, 2017 at Lewis Sullivan Funeral Home in Seaman before a 2:00 graveside service that will be held at Mt. Leigh Cemetery with military rites performed by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Heather Lynn McDaniel, 29 years of Seaman, passed away on Monday September 18, 2017.  She was born in Maysville, KY on August 15, 1988, the daughter of Edmond and Pat (Grooms) Osman of Seaman.

Besides her parents, Heather is survived by her husband, Jr. McDaniel, whom were married on July 4, 2014, son, Christopher Wayne Osman, two step-daughters, Annalise McDaniel and Nikayla McDaniel, brother, Orie Osman of Seaman, paternal grandparents, Chester and Barbara Osman of Seaman, maternal grandfather, Darryl Grooms of Seaman, maternal grandmother, Vanneta Brewer of Hillsboro, nephew, Landon Osman and several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

June V Horn

June V. Horn, age 86 of Wilmington, Ohio died Monday, September 18, 2017 at the Four Seasons of Washington. She was born November 22, 1930 near Peebles, Ohio the daughter of the late Daniel A. and Mary Setty Smalley.

Mrs. Horn had retired after thirty-one years of service with the RobertShaw Controls in Hillsboro. She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Connie Horn of Clarksville, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Clark of Clarksville, one sister, Ruth Perdue and one brother, Donald Smalley both of Peebles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank O. Horn on April 9, 2003, one daughter, Sandra McKinney and one brother, Lloyd Smalley.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23rd at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Phyllis Jean Anderson age 84 years of Manchester, Ohio passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017 at home. She was born March 7, 1933 the daughter of the late Fred and Josie Campbell in Clark County, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert M. Anderson Sr. and son Robert M. Anderson Jr.  She was a member of the Cedar Grove Church in Lynx, Ohio.

Survivors include three daughters Karen Wallis of Fairborn, OH; Vickie and Steve Banks of Inverness, FL; Jennifer and Danny Sullivan of Inverness, FL; one son Richard “Mike” and Sharon Anderson of Manchester, OH; twelve grandchildren Miranda and Brad Harleman; Melissa Wallis; Phillip Anderson; Curtis and Emily Anderson; Bethany and Gary Mitchell; Aaron Banks; Jeanna Anderson and Sage Sullivan; Dusty Richmond; Justin Richmond; Colt and Leigh Richmond; Alyssa and Shaun Boggs; Dillon and Dakota Raines; sixteen great grandchildren Morgan, Isabella, Noah, Dusty, Mackenzie, Alexandra, Sophia, Allison, Josie, Braxton, Dakota, Rylan, Carson, Bryanna, Nicholas and Cooper. Phyllis “Maw” will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Rosemary (Staten) Staggs, 88, of West Union, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Monarch Meadows Nursing Center in Seaman, Ohio. She was born December 2, 1928 in New Boston, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Hazel (Howard) Staten; husband, Oscar Staggs, Jr.; daughter, Donna Bullock;
two brothers, Kenneth Staten and John D. Staten.

Rosemary is survived by three daughters: Vickie Pence and husband Stanley, Connie Tomlin, and Kay Berry all of West Union; one son, Charles Matthews of West Union; four sisters: Virginia Copas, Beulah Ayers, Martha Hayslip all of West Union, and Emily Brown of Columbus; two brothers: David Staten and Oliver Staten, both of West Union;
eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephew.

Rosemary had worked as a nurse’s aide for many years. She attended the Peebles Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was a wonderful cook, and loved to cook for others.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Hope, Inc. Ohio Valley, 215 Hughes Boulevard, Mt. Orab, Ohio 45154.

Visitation is Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 11 am until 1 pm at Lafferty Funeral Home in West Union. The funeral is at 1 pm, with Pastor David Hopkins officiating.  Burial will be at West Union Cemetery in West Union.

William Larry (Bush) Tadlock, 71, of West Union passed away peacefully at home after a long struggle with diabetes on August 31, 2017. Larry was born on October 11, 1946, the eldest son of William Lloyd and Naomi Jane Tadlock. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest daughter Stacey Tadlock.

Larry leaves a brother, Jerry Tadlock, a much younger sister, Debra Schneider, two daughters, Shannon McDaniel and Shawna Gherman, one son, Christopher Tadlock, and seven grandchildren Amber Schneider, Kayla and Chelsea Adams, Madison and Makenzie McDaniel, Riggin Tadlock, Wesley Tadlock and Hailey Perry.

Billy Ray Deskins age 81 years of West Union, Ohio passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley Inpatient Center in Seaman, Ohio. Mr. Deskins was born February 1, 1936 the son of the late Henry E. and Willmae (Blackburn) Deskins in Boyd County, Kentucky. Besides his parents Mr. Deskins is preceded in death by a son Barrett Deskins.

Survivors include his wife who he married on November 22, 1954 Beverly Deskins of West Union, OH; three daughters Brenda Hanshaw and Harold of West Union, OH; Belinda Deskins of West Union, OH; Benise Sims and Leon of Peebles, OH; four sons Billy Edward Deskins of Horsebranch, KY; Brad Deskins and Linda of Cromwell, KY; Blaine Deskins and Marion of West Union, OH; Tim Deskins and Tina of Cromwell, KY; Daughter-In- Law Tina Deskins of Otway, OH; one brother Mathew Barnett of Illinois. Twenty eight grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.

Steven L Kimberlin, 47 years, of Winchester, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at the Christ Hospital, in Cincinnati. Steven was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on December 17, 1969, the son of the late Hubert Kimberlin, and Helen and Ronnie Blackburn, of Drift, Kentucky. He was retired from the Croswell Company.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman; he thoroughly enjoyed taking his Razor out for a ride. Steven was preceded in death by his father.

In addition to his mother, Steven is survived by his wife, Kimberly Young Kimberlin, whom he married on December 12, 2012. He is also survived by his son, Cody Kimberlin, of Mt. Orab, Ohio; a stepson, Jackson Taylor, of Winchester; and two stepdaughters, Katelynn McIntosh, of Leesburg, Ohio, and Kayla Taylor, of Winchester.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, in Peebles, with burial to follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery, Peebles, with Ted Grooms officiating. Clifton J. DeMint, 78, of West Union, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Adams County Regional Medical Center in Seaman, Ohio. He was born August 2, 1939 in West Union. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Ethel (Abbott) DeMint.

Clifton is survived by four sisters: Mary Curtis, Brenda Rowe, and Rita Slack, all of West Union and Sandra Brumley of Tipp City, Ohio; one brother, Marty DeMint of Port Charlotte, Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bonnie Hawkins age 87 years of West Union, Ohio passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at her residence. Mrs. Hawkins was born on December 21, 1929 the daughter of the late James Pilcher and Stella Edith (Nichols) Branham.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Hawkins, grandson Todd Wayne Hawkins, sisters Phyllis Presslor and Kathryn McFarland, and brother James “Buddy” Branham.

Bonnie was a member of the West Union Christian Union Church, past matron and 50 year member of the West Union Eastern Star #246, 1969 Deputy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of the Ohio Eastern Star, Past president of the Adams County Hospital Auxiliary, secretary of the Young-Moore American Legion Auxiliary #100, and a charter member of the Zane Trace Auto Club.

Survivors include two sons Dennis Hawkins and wife Josie of Minford, Ohio; Phil Hawkins and wife Becky of West Union, Ohio; sister Eloise Doddridge and husband Stan of Lucasville, Ohio; brother Charles Edwin Neary and wife Dianna of Sparta, Tennessee; seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home, with Lee Dittwiller officiating. Burial will follow in the West Union Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 5 to 7 P.M. Eastern Star services will be held at 11:00 A.M. prior to the funeral.

Beside his parents, Steve was preceded in death by four brothers Clarence “Buster”, Greg, Dale and Gary Fetters; three sisters Patricia Fetters, Debbie Conley and Brenda Curtis. Fetters of Union City, IN.; two god children Donnie Louk of N.C. and Dazjia Richardson of Japan; one brother Paul Fetters of Seaman, OH.; four sisters Shirley (Grant) Taylor of FL., Sue (Doug) Boling of Seaman, OH., Judy (Charlie) Dotson of Seaman, OH., Paula (Eugene) Boldman of Seaman, OH., two sisters-in- law Shirley Fetters of Winchester, OH., Debbie Fetters of Seaman, OH., one brother-in- law Andy Curtis of Winchester, OH., several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Deanna L Parker, 64 years, of Blue Creek, Ohio, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017, at the Hospice of Hope Care Center, Maysville, Kentucky. Deanna was born in West Union, Ohio, on November 30, 1952.

She was the daughter of Cecil Young and Marcella Wilson Young. Deanna worked as a laborer. She attended the Peebles Missionary Evangelical Church of Christ.

Deanna is survived by her husband, David Parker, whom she married on October 4, 1996; and a daughter, Stephanie King, of Blue Creek. Deanna also leaves behind two brothers, Kevin Young and Bo Young, both of West Union. She will be missed by her two grandchildren, Christa and Ragyn.

Mr. Peters served in the Navy from 1969 – 1972 on the U.S.S. Yosemite.

Gregory Terry, 77, of Sardinia, Ohio, died peacefully in the arms of his family, Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born in Hardburly, KY on May 2, 1940.

Greg always stayed true to his eastern Kentucky roots. At the age of 18, Greg started working at General Motors in Norwood. Six years later, he married his best friend, his “rock”, Virginia Allen, in Clintwood, VA. Greg loved his four children and spending time with each of them from having long discussions with Ann, eating Tamara’s homemade chocolate pies, farming with Richard, and playing baby dolls with Tina. He loved playing Rook with his brothers, watching UK basketball, teasing his sisters, and taking care of his parents. Greg was also a longtime member of the Masonic Greenville Lodge No. 655 of Caney, KY.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents Thornton Terry and Hazel Prater Terry, one sister, Linda Terry, and three brothers – Randolph, Ralph Paul, and James Trent Terry. Greg is survived by his wife, Virginia Terry of Sardinia, 3 daughters; Elizabeth Ann Smith and husband Danny of Sardinia, Tamara Sue Martin and husband Curt of Lexington, KY, Tina Aileen Tkach, and husband Kevin of Union, KY, 1 son: Richard Lee Terry and wife Christine of Winchester, 9 grandchildren, Austin Tyler Smith, and wife Katlyn; Dylan Lane Smith, Amanda Jean Shell, Claire Marie Martin, Allison Nicole Shell, Grace Amelia Martin, Garret Michael Davis, Cody Franklin Davis, and Pierce Gregory Tkach. He is also survived by 5 brothers; Norvin “Shorty” Terry and wife Shirley of West Liberty, KY, Phillip Ray Terry and wife Linda Gale of West Liberty, KY, Harold Terry and wife Phyllis of Catlettsburg, KY, Darrell Terry and wife Judy of Flatwoods, KY, Danny Terry and wife Sherry, of West Liberty, KY, and 4 sisters; Mable Keith of Sebring, FL; Barbara Ann Schirmer of Lexington, KY, Lois Wilson of Lexington, KY, and Charlene Atkins and husband Tony Atkins, of Lexington, KY, 2 sister-in-laws; Lucille Terry of Bethel and Marcie Terry of Stanton, KY. Greg is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a countless list of friends and loved ones, each holding a special place in his heart.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 4th, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Meeker Funeral Home in Russellville, Ohio. The family will then gather for a visitation on Thursday, October 5th at 1:00 pm at the Magoffin County Funeral Home in Salyersville, KY, followed by a Masonic Ritual and funeral services starting at 3:00 pm. Greg will be laid to rest at Newt Howard Cemetery in Bloomington, KY, immediately following the service.
